Paul Klapper

Paul began focusing exclusively on Venture Capital and Private Equity investing in 1994 when Paul and his investment partners acquired A&W Restaurants where he served as Chairman and Board Member. The Company then acquired Long John Silver’s, Inc. and was acquired by Yum! Brands in 2002. In 1997 Paul lead an investment group in Applied Underwriters Inc. and served as an advisor to the company until it was sold to Berkshire Hathaway in 2007. In 1999 Paul formalized his first Venture fund, “PFK Acquisition Company I, LLC”, at the suggestion of his investing partners. Paul organized his second fund in 2000 and his third fund, and the first of the Clydesdale family of funds, in 2005.

Paul has an extensive entrepreneurial background in travel and real estate development and investments. In the 70’s Paul built and sold one of the largest travel tour companies in the United States, Creative World Travel. Through the 80’s and early 90’s Paul developed a number of commercial office buildings and brought a sold numerous portfolios of Real Estate.

Brad Klapper

Brad joined Clydesdale in 2006 just prior to raising the firms 2007 fund Clydesdale Partners II, LLC. Brad brings over fifteen years of sales, marketing and business development experience to our team. Brad invests in emerging technology start-ups in areas including software, Internet and digital media. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for Bishop Rock Software, NowMedia Corporation and The Concert Network, Inc.

Prior to joining Clydesdale, Brad held a variety of positions at Siebel Systems (acquired by Oracle) from 1998 – 2006. Brad was recognized by the Executive team as a top talent, being appointed to the company’s Chairman’s Circle and Sales Leadership Council.

Prior to joining Siebel, Brad ran Business Development for Freepoint Telecom, a start-up deploying turn-key, in-building wireless networks for owners/operators of multi-tenanted properties.

Prior to Freepoint, Brad built and sold a data communications business, taking the company from conception to $2m in revenue in just 18 months. Before “finding” telecom and technology Brad spent four years as a consultant most recently as a Manager at Ernst & Young Corporate Real Estate Services, leading various projects for Fortune 250 accounts.

Brad attended the University of Colorado at Boulder. He is married and has two young children.

Jim Madden

Jim has worked with Paul for over 25 years. He has extensive experience in finance, private equity investment and real estate. Jim manages the formation and investment activities of Clydesdale Ventures four funds.

He began his career in the Northwestern Mutual Real Estate office in San Francisco handling direct and joint venture investments in a wide variety of property types throughout the western U.S. He subsequently joined Genstar, a Canadian diversified operating company, as U.S. Treasurer as Genstar grew its U.S. presence from under $200 million to over $2.0 billion.

Jim earned an A.B. from Stanford University in Economics, and an M.S. in Finance from the Anderson School of Business at UCLA.

Julie Nelson

Julie oversees all of the administrative functions of our office and keeps us in order. She has worked with Paul since 1990 as his Office Manager and Executive Assistant. She is a graduate of the University of California at Berkley with a BS degree in Political Science. Julie is married and has a young daughter.
